On the Fifth Day of Christmas

My True Love Gave to Me…

Five Sexy Scenes

Sing it loud and clear! After all, it is one of the central elements of the genre – and what many of us love best about it. Whether it’s kisses sweet (or steamy!), simmering sexual tension, or the actual bow-chicka-wow-wow, who can resist those scenes that drive the hero & heroine closer to physical and emotional intimacy?

What are some of your favorite sexy scenes and/or sexy scene writers? Comment before Sunday night (midnight CST) for a chance to win one of two ARCs of Lacey Alexander’s February release, THE BIKINI DIARIES - a book that is guaranteed to have AT LEAST five sexy scenes, and probably a heck of a lot more! Enjoy an excerpt below (but be warned that it contains graphic language!).

Congrats to Nathalie, winner of our First Day of Christmas prize! Email Lindsey to claim it.

At the water’s edge, he turned toward her, bringing their bodies agonizingly near without touching. Then his hands rose to her face and he brought his mouth down on hers. It wasn’t a hard kiss, yet it was firm and controlling – mmm, yes, he was clearly a man who knew how to seduce.

The second his tongue pressed at her lips, she parted them and met it with her own. Her arms circled his neck as his palms curved over her hips, pulling her to him. Oh God, he was completely erect now, his erection pressing intently at her clit – and she felt it everywhere, her whole body tensing with a thrill of hot, rigid pleasure. She kissed him harder, instinctually, and his hands dropped to her ass, molding, squeezing.

And just like back on the dance floor, she waited for something to happen, some odd feeling of revulsion, or just plain wrongness, because she’d never slept with a stranger before – she’d never even made out with a stranger at a party or anything like that, her life simply hadn’t gone that way. Hell, she’d never thought of herself as prim, but maybe her actions didn’t always reflect the woman she was inside. Maybe she’d let fear or propriety or appearances rule her life in some ways up to now.

But tonight, right now, she was completely ready for this, completely ready for him, her hot stranger. And she heard herself whispering up into his ear as his kisses spanned her neck, as his cock pressed into the juncture of her thighs. “I’m so glad you like bad girls.” Because that’s what she was, at least tonight, for him. She’d never felt hungrier, nastier, or more ready for down and dirty sex.

So it surprised the hell out of her when Brandon pulled back slightly to cast a sexy yet scolding grin. “You’re not a bad girl, honey – you’re a sweetheart.”

Damn it, she was so a bad girl. How, after the way she’d flirted and come to the beach with the clear intention of having sex, could he think she was sweet? She drew back a little more and looked down at herself. “Since when do sweet girls dress like this?” The inner slopes of her breasts were displayed and the dress hugged her every curve. “Since when do they meet a guy and leave a bar with him fifteen minutes later?”

But Brandon just chuckled, his hands still resting on her hips. “It’s not about what you’re wearing. It’s in your eyes, your voice, the way you talk.” He gave his head a challenging tilt. “If you want to convince me you’re a bad girl, you’ll have prove it.”

Wendy drew in her breath, prepared to do just that. She hadn’t come this far, taken this many daring personal risks, to let her dream lover tell her she was sweet. “What if I said, ‘Fuck me – now’?” She tried her damnedest to put a bite in the words.

His eyes glazed with lust as he answered, low and deep. “I’d say that your wish is my command – but that even sweet girls like to fuck.”

So he was going to be insufferable about the sweet issue. But her pussy was too engorged with lust to keep worrying about that part. So she moved on to what was more important at the moment and, again, tried to sound as naughty and demanding as possible as she said, “Then fuck me. Now.”

The bathtub scene with Bel and Robert from Gaelen Foley’s “The Duke” is one of my favorites. Another is the scene that takes place on the desk of the hero’s office in Stephanie Laurens’ “The Lady Chosen.” I think Shannon McKenna and Erin McCarthy are great sexy scene writers.

Yay! You guys are back! I couldn’t load your page yesterday. It’s hard to start the day without you guys.:)
I’ve yet to read a Lacey Alexander book. But I’ve read almost every Toni Blake book. She’s so talented.
Steamy authors/scenes? Hmmmm… Madeline Hunter’s Secrets of Surrender was scorching. Elizabeth Hoyt never disappoints. Lisa Kleypas is amazing. And Kathryn Caskie’s To Sin With A Stranger has that amazing scene with the marbles.

I couldn’t load them yesterday either, Kelly. I wonder what was up!?

It’s getting to the point where once you’ve read one you’ve read them all. So, when I actually read (instead of skim) a sex/sexy scene in a book and remember it, you know it has to be good.

A few come to mind immediately – Derek and Sara (from LK’s Dreaming of You) in the private room at the club the night of the masquerade where they’re going at it before he realizes who he’s with and then they have to stop. Another one is the first time Lily and Alex make love in LK’s Then Came You. The airplane lavatory scene between Phoebe and Dan in SEP’s It Had To Be You. They also got all worked up and had to stop. The scene between Phin and Sophie on the dock in Jennifer Crusie’s Welcome to Temptation is pretty hot also.

I know there are tons more but those are the ones that popped into my head immediately.

I agree with Kelly on Madeline Hunter and would also throw in Lisa Kleypas. Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Jennifer Crusie are very hot on the contemporary front.

Hmmm, have to echo a few others here. When it comes to love scenes, I think Lisa Kleypas and Elizabeth Hoyt top my list for sheer intensity – they get that combination of hawtness and emotion just right. And then I love writers like Julia Quinn and Eloisa James for getting that “human factor” so right–I love the way they manage to infuse humor and realism into steamy scenes.

Um, I haven’t read Kathryn Caskie’s latest yet, but now it’s going to the top of the list! So intrigued by the marbles…;)

If you like hot historicals, I have to plug Jennifer Haymore’s historicals forthcoming in 2009. She’s got a mainstream historical coming out called A HINT OF WICKED, and as Dawn Halliday, she has an erotic Scottish historical romance coming out with NAL in trade – HIGHLAND OBSESSION. Both are scorching and intense… :)

The Vagabonds had technical problems with Internet Explorere yesterday, and Élodie was chained to her laptop, trying to finish a major paper for one of her grad classes. You can comment on both the fourth and fifth days today.

I think we need a new word to describe the sensuality in Toni/Lacey’s books. :)

I agree with Elizabeth Hoyt’s scenes. I like them because they sizzle, but they are never extraneous. Laura Lee Guhrke created a memorable scene in And Then He Kissed Her, and I blush just thinking of what Michael does with words in Julia Quinn’s When He Was Wicked. Judith Ivory–pick any book and you’ll find superlatively rendered lovemaking scenes. If I have to pick one, I’ll choose the dentist chair scene in Sleeping Beauty. My favorite is less erotic than many, but it is an incredibly skillful blend of sexiness, tenderness, and love: the long scene between Michael and Catherine in Mary Jo Putney’s Shattered Rainbows.

Its almost impossible to pick a single, or even several favourite love scenes. Like Jane I go for water. One scene that stand out in my mind, particularly for the strange contrasts of captivity, seduction and love is Joanna Bourne’s ‘Spymasters Lady’.

Grey has Annique captured in the ‘innermost stronghold of the British Secret Service’ and is charged with extracting information from her. There is a conflict of interest as he is in love with the girl so He takes her down to the cellar where there is a very large bath, helps her undress and places her in the tub full of hot water. He then proceeds to wash her hair. (The Brits have special ways of extracting info!). Grey then joins her in the tub and they make mad passionate love together. He obtains the info later.

What a great excerpt! I can’t wait for this one to come out :-)

I don’t think I could just pick one scene there are way to many to pick from. But I have to agree with all that have been mentioned so far.

Lora Leigh is good! I love her breed books and she has some very hot scenes in her Bound series. Great excerpt!

Oh I often remember this scene of Stephanie Lauren’s CAPTAIN JACK’S WOMAN. There’s a sensual and intense scene that involves against a tree late at night! Whew! It has not just the sizzle but too the deep emotional attachment between the hero and heroine that I can still remember as clear as if I read it today but it was a few years ago.

Gosh, this scene Lacey will be one too that will stick with me too. The raw connection between Brandon and Wendy had the sexual tension that had to remind me to breathe too! That rocked!

Whew, that excerpt was hot! Well, I have every Toni Blake book to date, and there are some of the sexiest scenes I’ve ever read in most all of those. The Red Diary and Swept Away are my personal favorites, but I love every one. I have read two Lacey books, and they do not disappoint either. I also love Lisa Kleypas, Jill Shalvis, SEP, Candace Hern, Erin McCarthy, and Alison Kent. They all develop that chemistry between their characters flawlessly! If only I could write like that, well, I would lol. Happy Holidays!

The first scene came to my mind would be the balcony scene in Linda Howard’ Kill and Tell. It is so hot. Another scene would be Elizabeth Hoyt’s The Serpent Prince when Simon came back from the dual and found Lucy in the conservatory.

Tessa, I do not know Jennifer Haymore is the same person as Dawn Halliday. I love Ms. Halliday’s work. I saw Ms. Haymore’s cover in Amazon and think it is very beautiful and interesting.
